For the sake of sanity, just leave a voicemail!

Just do us all a favor

I may be alone in this, but I highly doubt it.  My phone number is certainly not private as I have it listed in various public places; because of this, I get a fair amount of phone calls from numbers that I do not recognize. Now, everyone that knows me, knows that I do not answer phone calls from numbers I either do not recognize or I cannot find the source on Google. Rather than listen to telemarketers or possibly scammers, I choose to just ignore the call. The system works for me.

With that in mind, I do often gets call from people that I do actually know and wouldn't mind speaking to, but there is a problem: I do not know it is them. If only there was some kind of system where if I do not answer the call, the individual calling could leave me a message to identify themselves and ask for me to call back.

Oh wait, we have something like that; it is called voicemail.

No number? No answer

On any given day, I receive at least two to three calls from local numbers that I do not recognize; I also miss the occasional call from someone I do recognize. Oddly enough, not one single caller ever leaves a voicemail. I cannot count the number of times I have gone in to my voicemail to check the settings and make sure it is not full, and every time, I find it is working perfectly. So, am I weird in being annoyed that people do not leave messages?

Could I have answered your call? Possibly, but I didn't. However, you clearly called me so you must have wanted to speak to me for some reason. Why would you not leave me information that I can use to return your call? Chances are that I am going to forget I have a missed call shortly after swiping away the notification? Guess what notifications you cannot just swipe away? Voicemails.

Maybe I am alone in my aggravation that people repeatedly call me without leaving a message. However, I am surely not the only person who does not answer calls from numbers that are unrecognizable to me, and that habit of mine is not going to change. When I call any number, I typically always leave a message because chances are, you are not going to return a call to a random person that you do not even know the name of, right?

So please, for the sake of everyone's sanity, just leave a damn message. It takes 5 seconds to leave a name and number; if not, I can 100% guarantee that you will not be getting a return call.

Self-Driving Cars

The future of the world seems to be autonomous. We have reached a point that the future is going to be in Artificial Intelligence; Google has even said they are an AI-first company. The idea behind this push is for machines to learn and adapt to our needs. We want machines to work easily for us. One category of machines that is being pushed to work for us (and without us) is automobiles. Even when transportation consisted of horses pulling a buggy, humans have always been "behind the wheel". By that, I mean that humans have always controlled where, when, why, and how a vehicle will be moving. We have now reached a point where the future will consist of cars that control speed and direction without the need for human control. Aside from convenience, the main reason for the push: removing human error. It is no surprise that the vast majority of automobile accidents can be traced back to human error. Whether it is not watching the road, driving too fast, or simple reckless b...

Where do tablets belong?

Last night, I had a sudden thought: where does my tablet belong in my tech life? I have always loved the thought of having a need and purpose for every piece of technology I own. For instance, my computer does all of my heavy lifting (photo and video editing) while my phone does all of communicating and daily living tasks. My Chromecast ? That is for tossing music and videos to my TV. Google Home Mini ? What a great little assistant for quick information and getting my day started. I use my Xbox for gaming while my Huawei Watch gives me quick updates and almost-hands-free communication. So, where does my Kindle come in? I originally bought my Kindle Fire to be a consumption device and makeshift pseudo-laptop as mine is not very portable. I thought I would use it for all of Netflix watching as I moved about the house as well as for reading plenty of books; I even intended it to be useful to bang out a quick blog post or article. We probably had a great relationship at first...and ...

Roseanne, Roseanne. Thank you for demonstrating why you should think before posting

IMAGE: Getty Images (Composite from PageSix) A while back, I wrote a piece encouraging people to be mindful of their digital footprint and the things they say and do on social media. As someone who has seen some very questionable things posted online, I thought it was important to encourage others to take caution with what they share. As for those who are forced to see and hear another's ridiculous thoughts, I wrote a  piece  just days ago about the ability to unfollow and avoid others so that you are not forced to suffer through their farcical thoughts. Now, imagine my delight this morning, when I happen to stumble upon article after article detailing the nonsensical and inflammatory remarks on Twitter made by this country's most obnoxious T.V. mom. For those who may not have caught up on the news this morning, Roseanne Barr decided to enjoy her Memorial Day weekend by tweeting every ridiculous thought to come through her narrow mind ranging from accusations against Geo...
